Patient Stories
“When I came to the wound care center, they immediately took me under their wing.”
David had an open wound on his leg for months that just wouldn’t heal. “I saw several doctors, but not one seemed to help and after a while I felt like I was just wasting my time and money.” That’s when he realized that he had to look for another option and came to the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at Northwest Health - La Porte.
“Their team is amazing and they immediately took me under their wing. Everyone here is so caring, kind and compassionate. They looked deeper into the cause of my chronic un-healing ulcer and performed a biopsy. When they identified it as cancer, I was in shock. No one ever mentioned cancer before,” he recalled.
David learned surgery was needed to excise the cancerous cells. After seeking three opinions, he underwent outpatient surgery in April. Surgery was successful, but the incision didn’t close on its own now leaving David with another issue – a very large non-healing surgical wound.
“When I returned to the wound care center after surgery, I think they were even surprised at the size of my open incision,” shared David. “Thanks to them it’s finally healing.”
“When the wound on my foot got so bad that my doctor talked about amputating my leg – I said, ‘That isn’t happening!’ and thanks to the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at Northwest Health - La Porte, it didn’t!
It all started with a sore on the bottom of my foot.
At first I didn’t know anything was wrong because I have neuropathy and I couldn’t feel anything – but the sore kept getting worse and wouldn’t heal.
I saw several doctors and no one could help it heal, and quite honestly some of the things they tried actually made it worse. And finally, when one doctor talked about amputation, I knew I had to get specialized help.
That’s how I got to the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at Northwest Health - La Porte.
From my first visit, I knew I was in the right place. They were all fantastic. They make you feel so cared for and continually ask how you’re feeling or if you’re in any pain. They listen to you and explain everything. And they really know what they’re doing too."
