Northwest Health – La Porte Selected as Hospital for Maternity Care by US News and World Report
12/10/2025
US News and World Report has selected Northwest Health – La Porte as one of the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care in the United States, one of only 16 Indiana hospitals chosen. The selection was announced publicly on December 9, 2025.
In determining the best hospitals, US News and World Report considered amenities available for expectant moms as well as data that measures patient outcomes and hospital processes.
Northwest Health – La Porte was shown to have lower than average c-section and episiotomy rates, a commitment to exclusive breast milk feeding, participation in quality improvement collaboratives, and processes to address complications and reduce maternity morbidity.
The hospital was also recognized for offering amenities for maternity patients such as year-round childbirth classes, all private rooms, midwives, immersive tub hydrotherapy during labor, breastfeeding and lactation consultation, valet parking and both perinatal and postpartum depression screening and services.
“I’m incredibly proud of our staff who provide this outstanding care for the community,” said Mark Casanova, chief executive officer. “Department director Kristin Wroblewski leads an exemplary team who pride themselves on making sure every patient receives great care and outstanding service. Obstetricians Dr. Julius Ellis and Dr. Erika Pettis, along with the midwives and nurse practitioners who work with them, stay abreast of national standards and support the hospital’s efforts to meet or exceed them. I’m pleased to see this team get the national recognition they deserve.”
In June, the hospital was recognized by Newsweek magazine as one of the best maternity hospitals in the country.
