'Meet the Robot' Open House Gives Community the Chance to see High-Tech Surgical tool in Action
7/18/2025
Northwest Health – Porter will host an open house to give community members an up-close look at its newest high-tech surgical robot and how it’s transforming the future of surgery.
The community is invited to “Meet the Robot” during an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, in the Community Room at Northwest Health – Porter, 85 E. U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso. Area residents are welcome to drop in any time during the open house and “test drive” the latest technology used in minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgeries, while talking with some of the surgeons who use it.
Robotic-assisted surgery allows surgeons to operate with small incisions, which can lead to less pain and quicker recovery for complex procedures. While Northwest Health – Porter has offered minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery for several years, this newest technology helps surgeons minimize trauma to surrounding tissues.
“This advanced technology leads to reduced operating times, less time spent under general anesthesia, and shorter hospital stays,” said Jeremy Luedtke, M.D., a general surgeon at Northwest Health – Porter who will be available at the event. “This investment, one of two robots used at the hospital, reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional care to patients in Northwest Indiana and represents a significant step forward in surgical innovation.”
At Northwest Health – Porter, experienced surgeons remain 100% in control when using the robotic-assisted surgical system. The technology enhances precision and accuracy through advanced force-sensing capabilities, provides high-definition 3D imaging, and improves ergonomics for greater surgeon comfort and visibility. It is used by several surgical specialties including urology, gynecology and general surgery.
All ages are welcome to attend the open house, including children accompanied by parents. The “Meet the Robot” community event is free, and registration is encouraged, which can be completed by going to NWHinfo.com/MeettheRobot.
