La Porte and Starke Hospitals Name “Colleagues of Quarter”

On April 11, La Porte Hospital and Starke Hospital announced their Colleagues of the Quarter and the winner of their Daisy Award for Nursing for first quarter 2019. Four colleagues were honored.
La Porte Physician Network’s Colleague of the Quarter was Andrea Back, Women’s Care Service Line Manager. Back was nominated by a co-worker who stated that Andrea continuously leads by example and is a mentor to her staff day in and day out. Her nomination described Andrea as reliable and committed to the physicians and midwives within her service line. The nomination went on to say that “she is polite, caring, knowledgeable and always supportive of her team’s efforts to meet the patients’ and community’s needs. She fills in when necessary and she goes above and beyond to meet the patients’ needs as well as cover for her co-workers.”
La Porte and Starke Hospitals’ Non-Clinical Colleague of the Quarter was Alison Patterson, Social Worker. A patient’s family member nominated Patterson for the assistance and care provided to their mother. The nomination stated that Alison was “informative and extremely helpful. She was patient, organized, and kind when explaining the treatment plan upon discharge. Her calm demeanor and quick responses kept the patient focused on her treatment” and went above and beyond this family’s expectations. This family member went on to state, “I cannot express how appreciative we are for Alison’s professionalism, attention to detail and kindness.”
La Porte and Starke Hospitals’ Clinical Colleague of the Quarter was Cathy Rudd, ED Tech at Starke Hospital. Rudd was selected because of her daily commitment to her co-workers. One nomination for Cathy stated that she “always helps out and constantly has a smile. She will often stay over and come in when needed to meet the patients’ needs as well as cover for her co-workers. She is a true extension of her team; she gets supplies and anticipates the needs of her co-workers.”
The organization’s Daisy Award winner for outstanding nursing care was Kelsey Phlughupt, R.N.. The family member of a patient nominated Kelsey for this special award. She stated that Kelsey was caring for her mother when her mother seemed to be at the end of her life. She described Kelsey by saying “There were many tense moments and Kelsey’s bright and cheery spirit helped to lighten those moments. Her caring ways are very rare and a special trait.”
La Porte Hospital CEO, Ashley Dickinson expressed her gratitude for each of these winners and the many other nominees. She credited the compassionate, quality care they provide with contributing to the steady growth experienced at the organization over the last two years.
