Award Recipients, Cowan and Gibson, Announced at Northwest Health - Porter
5/31/2024
Northwest Health employees who show exceptional caregiving skills are awarded the DAISY award for exceptional nursing or the PETALS award for exceptional non-nursing skills and support. Award recipients are selected based on nominations they receive from patients, visitors, and/or their team members.
In May, Northwest Health – Porter presented the DAISY award to Brittnei Cowan, ASN, RN. Cowan was nominated by a patient who was hospitalized after having a heart attack. The patient said Cowan was “kind, understanding, informative and most importantly caring.” She continued saying that Cowan made one of the worst, scariest nights of the patient’s life, not so bad. The hospital applauded Cowan for caring for this patient with empathy and compassion while helping her feel at ease.
DAISY Award honorees personify Northwest Health’s dedication to delivering an exceptional experience for each patient. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as role models in the nursing community.
The hospital presented the PETALS award to Graham Gibson, who works in the Food and Nutrition department. Gibson received four nominations from patients and visitors. Gibson delivers meals to patient rooms and has a special way of interacting with them. The nominations all mentioned his confidence, competence, thoughtfulness, levity, and ability to lift their spirts. He treats patients the way he’d want his own family members to be treated.
PETALS award honorees put patients first and provide outstanding service. They work in roles, other than nursing, where they consistently demonstrate excellence through their expertise, professional support and extraordinary compassionate care. They are role models within Northwest Health.
