Northwest Medical Group – General Surgery Opens Office in Portage

Northwest Health has announced the expansion of Northwest Medical Group – General Surgery into Portage. Dr. Taylor Coleman, general surgeon, and Dr. D. Owen Young, colorectal surgeon and general surgeon, will see patients at the new office, Northwest Health – Portage, located at 3630 Willowcreek Road, Suite #4, on a part-time basis while continuing to schedule visits in their Valparaiso office as well.
Dr. Coleman is a general surgeon who is experienced in a range of procedures including robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgery techniques. His areas of interest include hernia repairs, foregut and biliary surgery, colorectal surgery, as well as breast, thyroid and parathyroid surgeries.
Dr. Coleman received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed a residency in general surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago – Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago. He is a native of Northwest Indiana.
Dr. Young is board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He attended medical school at the University of Rochester in New York. He completed his surgery residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington and then a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Stroger Hospital of Cook County/University of Chicago in Chicago. He performs both minimally invasive and traditional surgery and his areas of interest include surgery to treat all diseases of the colon and rectum including cancer and ulcerative colitis as well as all forms of general surgery.
